The book our reading group is reading is Peak by Roland Smith. Peak is climbing Mount Everest with three other people, Zopa, Sun-jo, and Josh. Peak has made it to camp four and he is going to try to make it to the summit. He has had a hard climb and it will probably be even harder. I hope he makes it to the summit!

A young girl had a dragon for a friend
He had to go away so he told her her fate
He said that when the lions’ eyes turn red go to an island and hold the Iron Rod
Much later a man decided to play a trick on her and painted the lions’ eyes red
She did what the dragon had told her and her town was destroyed
When she went back the survivors apologized for not listening to her
A widow spent all of her rice money on a painting
she embroidered it and it took her eight years
when she finished, the embroidery flew out the window
The daughters of the Sea King found it and tried to copy it
the widow’s son went to the Sea King’s palace and took it back
the widow spread the embroidery over her home and it came to life
So far in When the Sea Turned to Silver, Pinmei and Yishan met Lady Meng and are going to go to the City of Bright Moonlight on Lady Meng’s horse, BaiMa. It will be very hard to get there because everything is frozen and it is snowing heavily. They want to get there because the emperor wants a Luminous Stone and they think it might be there. I can’t wait to read more!

My class is reading When the Sea Turned to Silver by Grace Lin. Pinmei lives on a mountain in China with her grandmother, Amah. Their friend, Yishan, lives higher up the mountain. The Emperor, the Tiger Emperor, wants a Luminous Stone, but nobody knows what it is or how to get it. I can’t wait to read more!
