Nile Dweller Journal Entry

Dear Diary,

My father just got back from Upper Egypt. I am very excited because he brought back many things with him. My family are craftmakers, and we trade very often, so they are not often at home. My father tells me about the things he did on his trip and the strange things he saw. And I will finally get to do those things too, because I am allowed to come with him next time! He has also told us that a guy called Menes is going to try to unite Upper and Lower Egypt. I am not sure I like that idea because my father says the Upper Egyptians aren’t that smart, but I will go there soon and find out.  My brothers are pressuring me to play now before it gets dark, so I must go.

I just came back from dinner, and my father told us all about what he did and what things he traded for. He also told us he will be heading out to Upper Egypt in two days, and that I would be going with him! Although my siblings are telling me it will be boring, I am very excited. The trip is all I can think about now, and there is barely any ink left in the inkwell, so I have to stop writing.

Sincerely,

Lapis

Peak (Week 9)

The book our reading group is reading is Peak by Roland Smith. Peak is climbing Mount Everest with three other people, Zopa, Sun-jo, and Josh. Peak has made it to camp four and he is going to try to make it to the summit. He has had a hard climb and it will probably be even harder. I hope he makes it to the summit!

Week 8 Country Post

This year our grade did a research project on a Asian country. I chose to do my project on Cambodia. I liked learning about this country, even though I am not from there.  Cambodia has many palace ruins, the most famous of which is Angkor Wat. Both its seasons (rainy and dry) are good for traveling. It also has the Tonle Sap Lake, which is one of its major bodies of water. It is a popular country to visit and I hope I will go there someday!

The Philiadelphia Museum of Art (Week 6)

On Wednesday 5th grade went on a field trip to the Philiadelphia Museum of Art. We were studying Asia this year, so we saw the Asian exhibits. The person that led us showed us a Chinese house, a Japanese Tea House, and some Hindu stone carvings. One carving was of the Hindu god that was half-human, half-elephant, who is my favorite Hindu god. The museum we went to was also the one where they filmed Rocky running up the steps. We had a race up the steps to see who is the fastest. I hope I can go to the Museum again!

My School (Week 5 Blogging Challenge)

This is our library. It is very large and has a lot of books. My class has library every Monday. I like to get up to five books each class, and I usually finish them all in less than  a week. We also have a ‘Story Mountain’ where the teacher (usually) reads a chapter of a book. We are currently reading Out of My Mind.

The Story of the Painted Lion Eyes

A young girl had a dragon for a friend

He had to go away so he told her her fate

He said that when the lions’ eyes turn red go to an island and hold the Iron Rod

Much later a man decided to play a trick on her and painted the lions’ eyes red

She did what the dragon had told her and her town was destroyed

When she went back the survivors apologized for not listening to her
